Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.

This place has amazing food; please support them!! We had their Canton Style Steamed whole fish, Woodear Mushroom Cheng Du Style, and Sliced Beef & Maw Szechuan Style. It was all so perfect and so fresh. The umami flavors of each dish were so incredible, I wish all Chinese restaurants made food as good as Lao Sze Chuan. In terms of atmosphere, the lighting and the sound were not overstimulating. The lighting was not insulting to the eyes at all - warm colored and high enough that it wasn't right over my eyes. The music was where it should be - in the background and non-intrusive to conversations. And the TV screens were very high and did not demand my attention or my peripheral vision if I didn't want them to. It was a pretty sensory-friendly atmosphere for me; I would not hesitate to go back! The staff were also very friendly and accommodating.

I recently stopped by Lao Sze Chuan on a Wednesday around 3PM and immediately noticed one thingβ¦ we were LITERALLY the only people in the entire restaurant π Like not one table occupied. It felt a little weird at first, not gonna lie π Now the place itself? It has GOOD BONES. The design is actually really nice, you can tell this place probably looked amazing in its prime, but it definitely feels like itβs seen better days. A little cleaning and refreshing would go a LONG way β¨ Service was great though ππ½ Super attentive, food came out FASTβ¦ but again, when youβre the only table in the building, I would hope so π One thing my parents struggled with was the menu. Itβs VERY busy and kinda confusing, especially for my Hispanic parents who are used to ordering by looking at pictures. The menu has photos, but some dishes arenβt clearly labeled, so it made ordering more complicated than it needed to be. Now the FOOD ππ₯ The crab rangoons were the family FAVORITE. Crispy, flavorful, honestly addictive. Everybody kept reaching for more π We also ordered combo fried rice, soup dumplings, Mongolian lamb, and kung pao chicken, and overall everything was really solid. What I appreciated most w

Lao Sze Chuan β Aurora Review We came in during happy hour (2:30β5:00 PM) and it was such a great deal! You get 20% off, and we ordered 3 dishes for only about $40 (before tip). Definitely worth it. The food was yummyβjust perfect for our taste buds. Iβll be honest, I was hesitant to come back because we previously had a bad experience when they changed chefs. We once ordered mapo tofu and it tasted overly sweet, almost like sugar water. But this time? Completely different. Everything we ordered was flavorful and well-balanced. The ambience is nice, the place is pretty clean, and our server was friendly and attentive. Overall, a much better experience than beforeβand Iβm glad we gave them another chance. Would definitely come back, especially during happy hour!

I have been looking at this restaurant ever since we moved into Naperville area 15 yrs ago. I LOVE what they did to entire Plaza with Asian flair and grocery stores and multitude of different Asian restaurants. Finally, we had opportunity to visit this restaurant, and I was amazed how well they organized this huge group of people! They gave us separate place and seated us altogether. Each table had lots of different dishes to satisfy every pallet. We had some vegetarians and they were extremely happywhile I am a big meat eater and I was very happy as well. They served wine for adults, which was a huge bonus. We had lots of kids in our group and they didnβt seem to mind that it was loud and hectic! Servers were very friendly and attentive. Will definitely come back with just my family

Part of a chain spread across the chicago area. This suburban location delivers good dishes from an extensive menu with a solid lunch section. I have also tried the Chinatown location and found the spices more pronounced, which I like. I ordered Mu Shu Pork, a favorite dish, and a sampling of traditional appetizers. Good, but not exceptional. The pot stickers were very doughy and the chive pancakes were quite greasy though tasty. If in the area would try again for some of the spicier offerings.
